  • The choice depends on your local climate, home construction, and specific air contamination sources. While climate guidelines are a starting point (HRVs for humid regions, ERVs for dry/mixed climates), we also analyze your indoor environment. Factors like airtightness, occupancy, and the presence of indoor air contaminants (such as VOCs, CO2, and odors) influence the design. We evaluate these variables to recommend a system that effectively flushes out pollutants without sacrificing humidity control or comfort.

  • Yes, if you are a handy DIYer or have general construction experience. While we design our systems to be as installer-friendly as possible, this is still a construction project. You will need to be comfortable with tasks like cutting penetrations, mounting equipment, and routing ductwork. It is a perfect fit for capable homeowners, custom builders, or those who want to hire local labor for the physical work while we handle the design and supply.

  • Installing a unit without a plan is the most common cause of poor system performance. An expensive ERV cannot fix your air quality if the ductwork is undersized or doesn't reach the right spots. A custom mechanical design ensures your system is balanced, quiet, and effective at reducing indoor air contaminants. Our custom designs specify machine, duct, supply, and return locations to optimize air quality and system performance throughout your home.

  • Yes, they can be a helpful tool. They work to reduce radon in two ways: dilution and positive pressurization. First, the system continuously flushes out stale, radon-heavy air. Second, by commissioning the machine to create slight positive pressure (bringing in slightly more air than it exhausts), it helps prevent soil gases like radon from entering the home through the foundation in the first place. However, if your levels are dangerously high, we still recommend installing a dedicated sub-slab mitigation system.

    • The Hardware: The ERV/HRV unit, specific ductwork (rigid, semi-rigid, or insulated flex depending on the design), returns, diffusers, strapping, clamps and all necessary fittings shipped directly to your job site.

    • Installation Guide: A custom guide with installation tips for your install.

    • Support: Includes 2 hours of remote video/phone support to help guide you through the installation process.
